Kitsap Mental Health Services (KMHS) is seeking an HR Generalist to support daily Human Resources operations and employee support services across the agency. In this role, you will provide frontline HR assistance, maintain accurate employee records, and support benefits, leave, and compliance processes. As a member of our People Experience team you will support employee experience and consistent HR practices. Primary Responsibilities:

• Provide customer service by responding to routine questions from applicants and employees regarding policies, benefits, hiring processes, and workers’ compensation; refer complex matters as appropriate.
• Serve as backup for creating and maintaining employee ID badges in accordance with agency policy.
• Maintain accurate and uptodate employee files, records, and documentation.
• Complete initial, periodic, and annual I9 reviews; ensure compliance and maintain I9 files.
• Maintain a professional and respectful demeanor when interacting with staff, visitors, and the public.
Distribute exit information.
• Complete employment verification requests and coordinate with Payroll as needed.
• Enter and update employee data in HRIS, including name changes.
• Support PSLF and HRSA loan forgiveness verifications and related correspondence.
• Track agency sabbatical eligibility and approved leave.
• Partner with recruitment staff to review applications, schedule interviews, and support recruiting activities.
• Assist the Benefits & Leave Manager with qualifying events, benefit enrollment, invoicing, and HSA communications.
• Support annual Open Enrollment, Evidence of Insurability tracking, benefit billing, and payroll coordination.
• Assist with workers’ compensation claims, accident reporting, OSHA logs, and required reporting.
• Assist with benefits education and leave management processes.
• Facilitate benefit changes related to position changes and conduct stay and exit interviews as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED

EXPERIENCE: Experienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience)

At least two years of relevant Human Resources experience.
Experience with employee benefits and worker’s compensation claims

 

Preferred Qualifications:

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree (In Human Resources, Training and Development or Related Field)

EXPERIENCE: Intermediate (minimum 3 years of job-related experience). Experience with benefit reporting ACA, NDT, CMS Part D. Experience with UKG, and presenting training to groups. PHR and/or SHRM-CP certification.

 

Performance Requirements:

 

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Working knowledge of and application of relevant state and federal leave and benefit laws to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and office equipment; knowledge of HRIS systems 

SKILLS:

  • Advanced working knowledge in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. 
  • Excellent organizational skills, time management, and attention to detail.

ABILITIES:

  • Requires the ability to prepare professional correspondence for routine communications with internal and external customers. 
  • Requires the ability to maintain up-to-date records and ensure security and confidentiality of information.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with frequent interruptions in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and reliably handle matters of a confidential nature.

 

Equipment Operated: Standard office equipment including computers, printers, telephones, etc.

Work Environment: Office.

 

Mental/Physical Requirements: While performing the job duties, the employee is required to walk, sit, use hands and fingers reach with arms, talk, and listen. Frequent mobility and/or sitting required for extended periods
